Overview:
Performix Coatings was approached by several customers over a period of years, looking for a range of In Mold Coatings that could be used across a variety of mold temperatures in various types of manufacturing of molded foam products. Other In Mold Coating suppliers typically only offer 1-2 different types of products, a solvent based and a water-based option, but nothing specifically developed to work with a wide range of mold temperatures.
Challenge:
A new line of In Mold Coatings was needed as molding technology evolved which also brought new challenges to the coating industry. While we already offered a solvent base and water base In Mold Coatings, these weren’t suitable for these new manufacturing parameters.
Solution:
By working closely with our raw material suppliers, the foam chemical manufacturer and our customers, we leaned hard on our product development team with 120 years combined experience to solve this issue. Performix Coatings now offers a full range of specialty In Mold Coatings that cover a range of 75 F to 160 F mold temperatures, as well as different chemistries that address chemical, abrasion, UV resistances, water base, solvent base and low VOC options are available as well as In Mold Coatings for flexible and rigid foams that make your products look great and last longer. We also offer custom color match services and custom formulating to better meet your processing and EPA requirements. Performix Coatings leads the way with the widest range of In Mold Coatings in the industry.
Benefits:
Not only did the new flexible protective coatings meet the challenge but additional benefits included:
- Lower overall costs by increased life expectancy of products
- Greater durability
- Safer work environment for production employees
- Non-flammable
- Water clean-up
- Reduced hazardous waste and related costs
